Don’t mind me hiding from the comments after I post this. But who doesn’t like a bit of reality? Here are the things that irritate me most as a bridal makeup artist…. Enjoy 🤪

• Moving rooms or location. Why? Because It interrupts my flow, takes time and eats into a morning schedule. It also means my back breaks that little bit more moving my 38 stone kit. Shout out to venues who let you in at 7am hooray.

• People who interrupt my bride when she’s in my chair. A recent wedding a bride was spoken to 4 times by different people and each time I had to stop, stand back and wait. Let me get on with my job aaaaarghhh. Ask her before she sits down ffs.

• Clients who sit down with makeup still on from last night. I don’t account for removing old makeup and this also impacts on timings.

• Badly applied lashes and tan. Lashes hinder flawless eye makeup cos the little buggers get bent up in my brush or fall out. If you really must have them get fresh lashes that are done by a good lash tech. Same applies for tan. Off orange colours make colour matching your makeup a lot harder.

• Photographers that feel they own the day. We are ALL hired by the bride and if I extend respect to you, I expect the same. You don’t have priority when I have the bride in my chair. I’m not there to do staged shots until I’m done ok? (Waits for trolls)

• Clients who don’t pay attention to my pre wedding tips and start steaming with their makeup done and wonder why their makeup has slid off. It’s make up, heat and steam will affect it. 😭

• Bridesmaids that go bloody awol and delay things. Get in my chair on time 👀 🫢

• Those who insist on being on their phones while I’m trying to do makeup. It’s rude, it’s unnecessary and it makes it a lot harder to try and get in the flow. Wait until I’m done please 🙏🏻

I know, harsh. But it’s not really and there is a

I know, harsh. But it’s not really and there is a reason for this; so bear with me.

Asking for a trial usually comes from a place of anxiety. Will I hate my makeup and be tied in? How will I know whether this artist is the right one?

I get it- you are making an investment for your wedding and of course you want to be sure. However your trial is part of your booking, they are usually held 3-6 months ahead of your wedding. So waiting until this close to your big day before you secure your artist probably will mean I’m booked anyway.

Trial dates are limited. For me I run a dairy of not only bridal but lessons, occasion makeup and that’s not coupled with my family life. I just don’t have the space to offer trials to brides who aren’t confirmed as my booked brides come first.

Trials aren’t really the place to help you decide whether you want to book me. The communication we have during enquiry and booking, my reviews, most importantly my work, should be enough to assure you that I will be the person for you.

I do get that it’s nerve wracking especially if you’ve had a bad experience but I’m here to assure you which I’m always happy to do. Trials don’t always mean one look and done. It’s a way to work together to nail the look leaving you confident when you leave my studio.

A few tips for your girls to be as supportive as they can be on your big day:- 🤍

• Know the timings; running late without a doubt throws a wedding schedule so get to know where you need to be and when.
• Arrive with no makeup, fresh skin. I don’t factor in time to remove last nights mascara so make sure you’re organised and get a good skincare routine done the morning of the wedding.
• Be on hand with water to keep your bride hydrated, this goes for food too.
• Steam dresses and remove labels in advance of having hair and makeup done.
• Keep questions to a minimum while the bride is in the chair, this is her time to decompress and relax.
• Have a lipstick to touch up with throughout the day- I often see bridesmaids come unprepared so grab your fave lipstick and pop in your bag.

It’s that time of year where lots of you are havin

It’s that time of year where lots of you are having a nose over social media of wedding supplier and getting ready to take the plunge into booking a makeup artist for your wedding. To give you a little help with your decision I wanted to give you my top tips & help you avoid hiring the person who just isn’t for you.

• Cheap does not mean value. This year I’ve seen & heard stories of disappointed brides who have gone cheap “it’s only makeup- I can’t warrant paying that much just on my makeup!!” The same brides who will spend thousands on other things and yet YOUR FACE is on show all day and will be in all the pics and videos for years to come. Pricing is often coupled with years of experience in weddings, professionalism, 5 reviews from real brides and talent. Don’t skimp on your makeup- trust me a good MUA is worth their weight in gold.

• Going with a supplier who doesn’t show up on socials. You may see beautiful images of their work (check they’re not filtered *cough* Paris filter *cough* But! Do you resonate with them? Do they seem like the type of person you would be happy to have with you in the most intimate moments of your wedding day? Communication and people skills are super important when it comes to having a good MUA. Ability to keep you calm, make you laugh, make you at ease and more importantly help with those little things that you probably haven’t even thought of!

• Hiring someone who does not show competent in all skin tones. If you’re booking a decent MUA you shouldn’t have to ask “do you cater for darker skin tones?” whaaaat? It’s sad but make sure your whole bridal party are covered whatever their skin tone. It’s a given that a pro will have images and experience to help you not have to ask this question.

•. How is their reply to your emails or enquiry? Is it professional? Do they have terms and conditions? Flaky admin usually means slapdash working and as this should be a full time professional business for good wedding suppliers let this be a red flag if they’re not giving a good vibe. Protect yourself and your booking.

As a professional & passionate bridal makeup artist having 100’s of weddings under my belt, my goal is for your wedding day to run as smooth as possible. Which means there is sometimes the need for some tough love. Sorry not sorry… let’s unpack these tips shall we?

• Do not hire suppliers who have no experience in weddings and how a morning schedule should run. I’m looking at YOU hairdressers. Now sorry, but I sometimes see brides booking their usual hairdressers to do their wedding styling. I say this with love but please, make sure they have WEDDING experience. Highlights and cutting pros does not mean they’re competent in wedding hair. I’ve seen this a lot lately where hair is poor quality, they run really behind as they just aren’t on board with the fast paced environment of a wedding. Trust me, there is a huge difference in a hairdresser and a bridal hair stylist. Come for me all you like but I’m only saying this to help you 😜

• Cutting costs for your makeup by booking cheap. I can’t tell you how many brides I’ve seen over the years who start with a cheap artist only to be massively let down and disappointed at their trial. The MUA has no idea how to create wedding looks- yes there are some hugely talented glam artists but wedding glam can be very different. Plus you’re also paying for the experience we have and ability to be an all rounder to support you on the big day. Pay cheap and you’ll pay more in the long run.

• Having way too many people with you on the day. I feel so bad for brides who are surrounded by chaos and noise on their wedding mornings because they feel they had to choose everyone to be a bridesmaid. Big personalities taking over, noise, stress is usually caused by the people in the room so do yourself a favour and have only the calmest and most helpful of your friends with you 🫶🏻

• Do not feel that you can wing it when it comes to skincare. My makeup will only be as good as the effort you’ve put in and that goes for your bridal party. Start your skincare journey early and please- don’t rock up with sunburnt skin 😳 SPF50 is your friend
